Stargate Online Trading Card Game First PlayStargate SG-1 and its spin-off, Stargate Atlantis, have enjoyed long-runningsuccess on the Sci-Fi Channel but not so much in the game world. In spite of theseries’ popularity there’s been very little in the way of video games based onthe shows. This oversight will be corrected soon with the launch of Sony OnlineEntertainment’s Stargate Online Trading Card Game. I had the opportunity to takepart in the game’s beta, and after spending some time with its virtual decks Ican tell that it may just be a winner with the shows’ fans. Some aspects of Stargate Online will be familiar to you if you’ve ever playeda trading card game before. When you start play you get a virtual starter setbox of cards and three booster packs. You can “tear” these open right away andbegin perusing your cards for uncommon and rare cards or keep them “sealed” foruse in sealed deck tournaments.
You’ll be able to buy additional boosters andexpansions in the future and use them to build a deck to your liking or to tradefor the cards that you seek. The cards in the game all feature images takingstraight from the series, and in addition to the useful description of thecard’s special powers you get a little text providing a reference to how thecard’s person, place, or event fits into the Stargate universe. Fans of the showwill eat this up, but those unfamiliar with it still won’t be able to tell theirJack O’Neills from their Daniel Jacksons. The game provides a nice set of easyto use interfaces to manage and build your decks, and also includes a virtualcard book that lets you simply browse through your entire collection. Before you try your luck online against a live opponent, it pays to spendsome time with the game’s good set of tutorials that teach you to play the gameby leading you through several rounds of play. Once you’ve gone through thetutorials, you can play against a computer player to help familiarize yourselfwith the flow of play and strategies of the game.
When you feel you’re ready togo up against another human, the game provides a lobby for finding friends, creating games or browsing existing ones looking for a player, or you can clicka button and be instantly matched up with an opponent. The game itself is centered on completing missions. In each turn both playerswill have their chance at playing the good guys and trying to complete missions, and at playing the villains and trying to turn the other player’s missions intofailures. Each turn is played in a series of rounds in which each player canperform an action or pass and a turn ends when both players pass on consecutiverounds.
Each mission begins with the play of a random mission card from theplayer’s deck. Stargate fans will appreciate the fact that the missions aredrawn from episodes from the two series, but being familiar with these episodesdoesn’t give the player any sort of advantage in the game. Each mission is ratedin one or more of four different areas, Culture, Science, Combat and Ingenuity, and in order to complete the mission you’ll need to meet the requirements inthese areas. You attempt to do this by assigning one of your four charactercards to the mission. Character cards are also rated in the same four areas andthe goal is to assign characters to the mission until the cumulative characterratings meet or exceed the mission requirements.
Star Crusade: War for the Expanse is a free-to-play, online, digital collectible card game (CCG) based in a richly styled sci-fi universe, where. Stargate Online Trading Card Game Screenshots. Home Screenshots Stargate Online Trading Card Game. The Last of Us voted as Game of the Decade by fans. Resident Evil 3 Remake won't have multiple endings. Pokemon Sword & Shield are getting two expansions.
The villain player will try toprevent the mission from succeeding by playing villains who will add theircategory ratings to the mission’s, thereby increasing the required ratings andmaking it harder to complete. Of course this wouldn’t be a real trading cardgame without additional complications and bending of the rules caused by specialabilities of some of the characters and villains and by special event cards.Additional strategy comes into play due to action points which limit the numberof cards that can be put into play during a round and a limit of one missionassignment per turn for characters and villains. When to concede on a mission isas important a decision as is when to commit all of your resources towardssuccess. My time spent with Stargate Online was enjoyable – there’s enough depth ofstrategy to the game to keep you hooked for a while. It’s well worth a testdrive by Stargate and trading card game fans when it is released on April 18th,2007.
